The design of the apartment for a writer in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn was guided by his profession, and his life as a single father. The renovation consisted of a full kitchen and bathroom remodel as well as custom casework throughout the home.

The layout of the space was reconfigured to add a private bedroom for his son off of the main living space. This enclosure was created through the use of custom full height casework, with an entry bench and bar on the kitchen side and bookshelves in the living room.  Inside of the room, these pieces also have storage for his sons toys and clothing. Due to the compact size of the apartment, color was used to define different programs and add much needed storage for father and son. Since the client is a writer, his bookshelves became the main anchor of the home, and allowed for a sense of play with an integrated hidden door leading to his son’s room.
