	Located in Pioneer Square, one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods, the design of this 850-square-foot condo celebrates its history through a study in contrasts: a historic building with a modern interior, small washrooms within an open floor plan, and a play between light and dark materials. 
Once the loft had been cleared of the residue of its previous remodels, a small footprint of program was placed along the perimeter of the northeast corner in order to maximize open space.
The design of the loft took inspiration from the client and his desire for an open plan that could morph to accommodate his creative process. As an entrepreneur based in New York City, he wanted a space in his hometown of Seattle that would act as a sanctuary of reprieve as well as an incubator for personal projects. With the intention of keeping the loft not only throughout his life, but also as a space to be inherited by his family, it became important for the design to be as timeless and neutral as possible. A palette of monochromatic light and dark materials were used to elicit this quality, creating richness through a tactile nuance.
In an effort to maximize space, the bathroom program was broken up into four separate rooms: washroom, shower, toilet, and sauna. The bathrooms are completely clad in charred shou sugi ban with a floor of black cement tiles, their intimateness acting as a contrast to the openness and lightness of the outer palette. To celebrate the beautifully worn existing materials, the new design used highly detailed millwork to juxtapose old and new.&#38;nbsp; 
In the client’s chaotic world as a technology CEO – an existence spent in the ephemeral landscape of the internet – the design was a considered architectural experience created to highlight its physical, sensorial elements. 	The design of the apartment for a writer in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn was guided by his profession, and his life as a single father.&#38;nbsp;The renovation consisted of a full kitchen and bathroom remodel as well as custom casework throughout the home. 
The layout of the space was reconfigured to add a private bedroom for his son off of the main living space. This enclosure was created through the use of custom full height casework, with an entry bench and bar on the kitchen side and bookshelves in the living room.&#38;nbsp; Inside of the room, these pieces also have storage for his sons toys and clothing. Due to the compact size of the apartment, color was used to define different programs and add much needed storage for father and son. Since the client is a writer, his bookshelves became the main anchor of the home, and allowed for a sense of play with an integrated hidden door leading to his son’s room.&#38;nbsp;

	A family apartment continues its rich history and lineage with this remodel on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Passed down from father to son, the design of the renovation was based around themes of renewal and regeneration, while celebrating the existing heritage. The layout of the apartment, traditional family heirlooms, and the habitual nature that carries through generations of living in the same space was deeply considered. The new layout was altered to create functional spaces to host, work, play, and rest. The clock-grid organization allows for the cyclical and transformative use of spaces that suit the different needs and timelines of the home. 
The generational theme continues in the material palette, which is updated to celebrate the rich history of the apartment, while reflecting the second generation user. Wood and stone act as the base in which to layer new and old materials. Family heirlooms and modern pieces 
co-exist in the same space to embrace the transition of the apartment’s history. Open shelving, custom casework, and modern detailing allow for new traditions to emerge, while supporting the evolving needs of a growing family.&#38;nbsp;

This Williamsburg, Brooklyn loft is the first home for a young couple, complete with classic loft qualities such as double-height ceilings and an ornate exterior cast-iron façade. Inspired by the space’s pre-existing elements, this remodel prioritized dynamic variations in spatial experiences to maximize the compact footprint. 
A long hallway draws you through the home, ending at the open kitchen and living room. The large original windows supply ample natural lighting and a view of Williamsburg. The three bedrooms are raised above the main floor level to allow for a transition into quiet, more private spaces. Four skylights scatter the bedroom wing, and bring in incredible diffused lighting. A soothing palette of natural materials and soft neutral tones defines the home, paired with organic forms. The custom casework was designed to seamlessly integrate into the home to create a refined yet warm interior.

	Winner of the AIA NY Best of Interior Residential Architecture in 2023, this extensive remodel joins two abutting apartment units in the heart of New York City, crafting a creative sanctuary for a growing family of artists and entrepreneurs. Inspired by the functional compartments of vintage travel trunks, the design focuses on efficient and highly adaptable uses of space that allow for opening up and closing down. Integrated casework provides ample storage solutions, while pocket doors allow the clients to move between public and private areas with ease.&#38;nbsp; 

As a corner property, the original units’ natural spatial idiosyncrasies were resolved by implementing a long, linear circulation core, from the entryway to the living room, with an organic architecture that strategically delineates service and play. Characterized by its curved casework, collaborations with the artist-owner on custom wallpapers, and its modern furniture selections, the Chelsea apartment is an incredibly personalized, family-friendly home.

	The design of the new Baba Cool restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn was a practice in reinvention. The original location opened in 2014 and has been a local favorite ever since. After 10 years in the quaint 250 sqft storefront, Baba Cool had begun to outgrow their space and imagine what the next decade could mean for their coffee shop.&#38;nbsp;The new location opened in the Summer of 2024 and is directly across from the Brooklyn Academy of Music. With a much larger footprint, Baba Cool is ready to evolve into its next chapter. The space was designed to accommodate the goal of day-to-night dining, where you can stop in for a coffee, stay for lunch, and linger with a glass of wine into the evening. The color palette, materials, and form illicit a lingering and ease that transitions throughout the day. The layout of the space allows the guest to have four different dining experiences, which begin in the lounge near the entrance, move to the central nook, then the bar, and finally into the more formal dining area in the back. These different zones allow the cafe to operate in multiple ways and give the guest an opportunity to chose their own experience. With a warm neutral palette that is offset by the brushed aluminum bar, Baba Cool offers a respite from the bustle of Downtown Brooklyn.&#38;nbsp;
The design and execution of the project was done in collaboration with the Brooklyn based firm Lea Architecture.

	With views of the Cascades and Mount Rainier, this 360-degree residential design project was a practice in stripping and refurbishing for optimal livability. The existing Seattle home was built in the late 1950s, with mid-century modern bones, but layers of remodels had hidden its original essence. The first step was to remove dropped ceilings and circuitous walls to reveal the structure underneath, and streamline the flow from room to room. The new layout allowed for a large media area with new, expansive ribbon windows facing onto the scenery below.

A monochromatic material palette was then applied to highlight specific design details; the fireplace was stripped and became a focal point with access from both the living and dining rooms; and the kitchen was altered to face the dining room and mountain view, with all custom casework in a mid-century modern oiled walnut. The property’s upstairs took on a light and bright tone, and its downstairs a distinctly moodier palette, lending to a more navigable, livable, and overall homier experience.
